Accessibility

Equity accessibility is a two-fold issue: to make Equity membership more accessible, and to make Equity participation more accessible.

I joined AEA by earning 50 EMC points working in regional theaters.  It took me years, and during those years I frequently endured harassment and dangerous conditions.  We need to make it easier for our future members to join our ranks because:
  • Joining AEA offers union protection against harassment and discrimination, which is particularly vital to young and/or underrepresented actors
  • Joining AEA offers a higher promise of workplace safety, especially vital in the COVID-19 era
  • Making AEA membership more attainable will help to diversify the industry and will encourage racial and gender equality in our industry

We also need to make it easier to participate in Equity and have your voice heard.  The convention offers a good start, allowing AEA to be shaped by members who do not live in office cities, but we need to do more ensure everyone can be heard, including our members with disabilities, caregiving responsibilities, and other barriers to participation.  As a Delegate I will fight for measures to make Equity more accessible to all.
