I've been a professional actor for nearly a decade, having worked on Production, SET, and LORT contracts. Before the COVID-19 shutdown, I was in my second year acting on the National Tour of The Play that Goes Wrong and serving as its Equity Deputy. I loved working on that show, and I loved being a Deputy; I was excited by the intricacies of the rulebook, and was passionate about using my knowledge of that rulebook to advocate for, and take care of, my union-mates. That experience brought home what I already suspected: I am a policy wonk, and I love using that skill to positively affect the world around me. Becoming an Equity Convention Delegate is another step on that journey--the chance to shape our union's policies to do even greater good, and to make AEA stronger, more accessible, more equitable, and more transparent. During this world- (and industry-) altering crisis, I want to push AEA to lead the charge for racial, gender, and economic equality, as well as workplace safety, livable wages, and affordable healthcare.
